Artist profile and bio
Hi, I'm Alan Baker, originally from Ferndale, California. I have lived most of my adult life in Reno, NV in the midst of the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range and near my favorite place on earth, beautiful Lake Tahoe. As a young boy, I enjoyed creating art, but my real passion was the Wild West, and I was irresistibly drawn to the rough and tumble life of a cowboy. I was a bareback and saddle bronc rider for two different colleges and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), and most recently, competed as a header in team roping. I've led pack mules into the Sierra Nevada's, milked cows and believe it or not owned a sheep shearing outfit. To further round out my cowboy addiction, I became a certified farrier, and moved to the rolling green hills of northern Virginia for a couple of years to study under world class professionals at Virginia Tech. And somehow, in between all that, I managed to own the states only fur-tanning company, do a little modeling, land roles in several western tv commercials and two movies, become a trauma ER nurse, get my dual masters in Health Management and Business Administration, and father four talented, creative children (who have subsequently given me three amazing grandchildren). Needless to say, my life has not been dull! And my art? Well, I played guitar, drew, sculpted, carved carousel horses and painted in spurts throughout my life, but only recently have I been able to concentrate on enjoying and renewing my child-like wonder of creating. As you browse through Horse Feathers Art and Illustration, it’s my sincere wish that my art will make you smile. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
